I had a similar issue with my 2 cycle trimmer.  I noticed that at full throttle that the gas line would vacuum in cutting fuel to the engine.  I had a small leak somewhere in the gas line that was letting air in.  I replaced the gas line and my problem was solved for about $1.00.  I hope this helps.

Now that you mentioned it, I knew someone who had the same problem. After replacing the fuel line, his trimmer ran like a top.
