The vet can give him some mild sedative type medicine, just to "calm" his nerves and make him a little more at peace with his surroundings.  I am not talking about making him a zombie, just a little mellow.  He may be more willing to go with the flow then.  My dog has what I refer to as psychotic breaks around Christmastime ever year.  One year, he tore the blinds off of three windows and a door.  One year, he turned over a big wing-back living room chair and mangled one arm beyond repair.  One year, he kept attacking the trash and my shoes.  One year, he kept jumping up to see out the garage door window (I'm talking about for hours) and impaled himself on the door handle and nearly lost his leg.    He is a small dog, 1/2 beagle & 1/2 jack russell - 20 lbs soaking wet.  Now, when we see him starting to act "nuts" we give him a very mild sedative and he is our usual loving dog but without the $400 worth of damage or vet bills.
