Several 'good' solutions.......

One, run a strand of barbwire at or just below ground level along the fence line; this keeps dogs/animals from digging in/out of the yard.

There are several grades of electric fence, in raising dogs, horses, goats, etc., we have found that the ones you get at the big box stores simply aren't capable of doing the job. If the wire comes in contact with weeds, tall grass, etc, the voltage drops significantly and most animals will ignore them.

While I wouldn't purchase then from Tractor Supply, check out their selection of fence chargers. Pay special attention to the number of joules they put out (or volts). If you can't wait to buy it, go ahead or look for one at Jeffers Pet Supplies.

We have one that generates up to 17,000 volts (it will get your attention). Once a person or animal comes in contact with this, they will not approach it regardless of whether it is energized or not. Ours has been off for as long as 3 weeks before they even get brave enough to challenge the wire.

A good one will last many years, weather many thunderstorms and will keep your animals where they belong; just ask our 2 horses and six dogs (or you can ask my now 21 year old daughter who as a kid touched it and cried 'it flipped my brain'.
